The British version of American Idol, The X Factor, this weekend premiered in England, switching to the even more dramatic live-audition format of Simon Cowell's other big across-the-pond reality hit, Britain's Got Talent. And auditioning Saturday night, non-coincidentally in the all-important "pimp slot," was hunky and likable schoolteacher Danyl Johnson. And this teacher gave an A+ performance, for sure.

How good was Danyl? Nokia Launches Its First Notebook Computers

Nokia Corporation, the world's mobile phones leader, declared war on PC manufacturers as it launches its first notebook computers on Monday. Nokia notebook computers is powered by an Intel chip and running on Windows Mobile. Nokia Booklet 3G, as it's called, marks a major move for the Finnish company, which had until now stayed away from the growing and intensely competitive market for mini notebooks, known as netbooks.

Nokia Booklet 3G is equipped with a 10-inch screen, weighs 1.25 kilos (2.75 pounds) and delivers up to 12 hours of battery life. It connects to the Internet through Wi-fi or a third-generation cellular network and boasts a GPS.


The use of Intel Atom processor and Windows Mobile came as a surprise to analysts who had believed Nokia would likely opt for Linux or Maemo for its first netbook. Additional details, including pricing, availability and distribution strategy, will be announced at next week's Nokia World conference in Stuttgart, Germany.

Art Dealer Lawrence Salander Arrested for Art Scam

Art dealer Lawrence B. Salander was arrested again for his role in what Manhattan DA Robert Morgenthau called the biggest art scam in New York history, Bloomberg reported. Manacled and grimacing, the 60 year art dealer, who at his peak counted hedge-fund managers and tennis star John McEnroe as clients, pleaded not guilty in criminal court this afternoon. Five hours earlier he surrendered to Morgenthau’s office in lower Manhattan.

The new charges add three counts against Salander to the 100-count indictment presented in March — and introduced a new bold-faced name to the criminal case. Morgenthau said Salander and Morse repeatedly sold works by Robert De Niro Sr., an abstract expressionist painter who died in 1993, without informing his son, the actor Robert De Niro, or remitting proceeds.

Wearing a White Sox jacket and some rather square dad-esque jeans, President Barack Obama did a perfectly respectable job throwing out the first pitch at the All-Star game in St Louis this evening. Though it was tough to tell on telly, Obama seemed to throw the ball over the plate to Cardinal first baseman Albert Pujols, who inched up from a catcher's normal spot. Some booed Obama, but some more cheered him.

Smiling like he just clinched the final game of the World Series, the president then pumped his arm, seemingly pleased with the high-pressure pitch he had been practicing.

US and South Korean Websites Attacked

A cyber attack, suspectedly done by communist state North Korea, has paralyzed United States and South Korean government agencies, banks and businesses websites. The cyber attack happened as the North Korean leader Kim Jong Il appeared at a ceremony to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Kim Il Sung's death. Kim Il Sung is Kim Jong Il's father and was the first leader of North Korea.

US websites have been attacked including those of the Treasury Department, Secret Service, and Federal Trade Commission while South Korean websites appeared to be affected including the presidential Blue House, the Defense Ministry, and the lawmaking National Assembly.

South Korea’s intelligence agency has told parliament members that it believes North Korea may be behind the cyber attack, which hit 25 websites on Tuesday evening, shutting some of them down for up to four hours.

New Zealand's national airline has recently applied a quite unique way to encourage passengers to watch its in-flight safety video. Air New Zealand made the video featuring their nude stewardess and crew to show the safety procedures.

Airbus A310-300 Crash at Indian Ocean

Bodies of at least five victims from Airbus A310-300 crash had been recovered, along with the plane debris, reported Yemeni authorities. One live child was also reportedly rescued as the SAR teams searching for survivors of the Airbus crash near the island nation of Comoros.

Yemenia Air Flight 626 was en route from the Yemeni capital of San'a to the island nation of Comoros when it crashed over the Indian Ocean. The flight with 142 passengers and 11 crew originated in Paris on an Airbus A330 and stopped in Marseille before continuing the flight to Yemen, where the passengers and crew transferred to an Airbus A310-300.

The second Airbus plane went down as it approached the Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport in Moroni in heavy winds 12 miles from the coast of the island, the Yemeni authorities reported.

The Tuesday accident is the second major crash involving an Airbus jet flying to or from France this month. On June 1, an Air France flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris crashed in the Atlantic, killing all 228 people aboard. The French air accident investigator was expected to publish its preliminary report on that accident Thursday.

Dallas High Speed Car Chase Video

A Dallas high speed car chase ended after a truck driver smashed his truck to the car being chased by the police. There were, reportedly, at least 11 police car units chasing the car. They had been following the car back and forth on 635 in Dallas. Apparently, the car driver refused to pull over when the officers warned him for a traffic infraction. The Dallas car chase ended soon after the car driver decide to exit the freeway. He pulled his car out into an intersection and then a truck smashed it. The car continued to roll for a moment. After it stopped, police swarmed the car and the driver was taken to a hospital.

Apple has banned the "Hottest Girls" application for the iPhone. At first Apple allowed the "Hottest Girls" software distributed by the App Store on Thursday, but then removed the application after the developer started showing pictures of nude women. Availability of the application made it look that the company may have lightened its strict prohibition on adult contents in the store. But Apple removed the "Hottest Girls" software, and made it clear its policy is still the same.

"Apple will not distribute applications that contain inappropriate content," Tom Neumayr, Apple spokesman, said.

Van Halen Sues Nike on Dunk Low Sneakers

ELVH, Eddie Van Halen's company, are suing Nike shoes company over an alleged design similarity between Van Halen's iconic "Frankenstein" guitar and a new line of their Nike Dunk Low sneakers. But in a statement to Footwear News, Nike has now called the lawsuit without merit.

In 2001, Van Halen copyrighted the crisscrossing red, black and white pattern that Eddie created in the late '70s for his hybrid version of Gibson and Fender electric guitars. He's continued to use the design on subsequent guitars. The trim on the side of the Nike Dunks features a red background with black and white crisscrosses.

Each time you visit a website anywhere on the internet various bits of information are being collected to help webmasters track their visitors. Your privacy is very important to me. Bellow are bits of information I gather here on whatshotoday.blogspot.com.

Email RSS subscription - You can subscribe to my blog and get new posts delivered straight to your inbox. This is being handled by Google Feedburner. Collected email are not used for anything else but to keep you updated.
